The Dodgers plan on undrafted former MVP Cody Bellinger

As first reported by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Deciding whether to offer Bellinger, 27, a contract, was the most polarizing and difficult decision in baseball. Although he’s only three years removed from an MVP season in which he hit .305/.406/.629 with a 1.035 OPS, 47 home runs, and 115 RBI, he hasn’t hit over .239 or hit more than 19 times since That moment .

The Dodgers were at a loss as to why Bellinger’s struggles had not abated since he suffered a serious shoulder injury while celebrating in the playoffs. They weren’t alone — several opposing executives have shared their confusion in recent months — but there were plenty of teams watching the Dodgers’ decision closely. After all, a recent MVP winner often doesn’t or doesn’t become a business candidate who’s young enough where they can recover and have a long and successful career.
